A mobile court has fined an independent councilor candidate within the Mongla Port municipality for putting a wooden boat on the roof of his house.
On Monday (January 11) at noon, the councilor candidate of ward no. Mongla Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Nayan Kumar Rajbangshi raided Jalil Sikder’s house.
At that point a wooden boat was found on the roof of the house. Independent councilor candidate A. liable for keeping the boat symbol of another candidate. Jalil Sikder was fined Tk 40,000 by a mobile court.
Mongla Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Nayan Kumar Rajbangshi said the councilor candidate had been fined for violating the code of conduct by leaving a symbolic boat of a candidate aside from his own.
However, the councilor candidate A. Jalil Sikder said he’s a lively member of Bangladesh Awami League. So he also wanted to urge elected with the support of Awami League. But local leaders are campaigning for councilor posts as independent candidates, giving others the chance to become party candidates rather than him. He was within the Awami League before the choice of candidates and every one his relations are still in various leaderships of the Awami League. Before the election, the party joined the rally with a ship symbol posing for nominations. At that point he built the boat and respectfully left it on the roof of the house.
He further said that the opposition had caused the incident to humiliate the party-backed candidate as he was contesting the elections. albeit he was expelled from the party, he still loves Awami League. Independent candidate Jalil Sikder questioned why it might be a criminal offense to stay a symbolic boat on the roof of a house out of affection for the Awami League.
